By virtue of this orientation, its relevance to the activities of the physical therapist is limited. This small book, however, provides an excellent picture of what the physician faces in making decisions about the primary care of a patient with hand injury. This book is a companion to the The Hand: Examination and Diagnosis. The book begins with general chapters related to principles of management, anesthesia, and dressing and splints splints inflammation of the interosseous ligament between the small and large metacarpal bones of horses and an accompanying periostitis and exostosis production on the small metacarpal bone. The metatarsal bones are similarly but less frequently involved. . The specific primary treatments of a variety of problems divided according to according to prep. 1. The final chapter is related to the role of hand therapy in a patient's treatment. These topics are presented clearly, and the illustrations are helpful. For a facility or individual with significant contact with patients with hand injury, this book would be of interest. The book, however, is geared toward treatment of the patient before the physical therapist becomes actively involved and is therefore of limited usefulness in assisting with treatment planning or implementation.
