This book is intended to provide the physician with information related to the most current concepts in the initial care of a variety of hand problems. By virtue of this orientation, its relevance to the activities of the physical therapist is limited. This small book, however, provides an excellent picture of what the physician faces in making decisions about the primary care of a patient with hand injury. This book is a companion to the The Hand: Examination and Diagnosis. The book begins with general chapters related to principles of management, anesthesia, and dressing and splints splints

These topics are presented clearly, and the illustrations are helpful. For a facility or individual with significant contact with patients with hand injury, this book would be of interest. The book, however, is geared toward treatment of the patient before the physical therapist becomes actively involved and is therefore of limited usefulness in assisting with treatment planning or implementation.
