Rock and Roll High School was another edition of the teenage exploitation films of the period, low budget and cheesy cheesy (che´ze) caseous. , and this was originally going to be called Disco High and feature the band Cheap Trick Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, that gained popularity in the late 1970s. The band consists of Robin Zander (vocals, guitar), Rick Nielsen (guitar, vocals), Tom Petersson (bass guitar, vocals), and Bun E. Carlos (drums, percussion). , who would've also made a great subject for a film. So it's got some relative early footage of the Ramones before their records went further south, and of course turned American punk rock into a butt for jokes--although of course the Ramones triumph in the film. For a better look at the Ramones, try End of the Century. This recent documentary is mandatory viewing for any self-respecting Ramones fan. It traces the history of the band through archival footage and interviews, the early days of CBGB CBGB Country, Blue Grass & Blues (NYC bar whose name came from music originally booked there) , the frustration of never making it big, the friction that stayed with the band for years without breaking it up, their success overseas, and their last hurrah, right up to Joey's and Dee Dee's death (but before Johnny's).
