Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she received a B.A. from the University of Manitoba in 1949. Her parents were Russian-Jews who emigrated from the Ukraine to Canada, in part, to escape the pogroms that
 is the first literary study of the written works of Canadian author Adele Wiseman, whose career began with her internationally acclaimed first novel "The Sacrifice", and included drama and nonfiction as well as years of service mentoring other writers. Extensively researched, and drawing upon previously unpublished archival material and personal interviews with publishers, editors, and writers, The Force of Vocation is a revealing life story about a literary professional who absolutely refused to compromise her work for marketability in the slightest.
