The Fedora Project Announces First-Annual Conference; Fedora Users and Developers To Meet In Boston February 18.


RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Fedora Project The Fedora Project is the community responsible for producing the Fedora Linux distribution, along with a variety of other projects. It is the result of a merger between the Red Hat Linux (RHL) and old Fedora Linux projects in September 2003, and is officially sponsored by Red Hat, , a Red Hat-sponsored (Nasdaq: RHAT RHAT Red Hat (stock symbol)

) and community-supported open source project, today announced the first-annual Fedora A free distribution of the Linux kernel from Red Hat along with a variety of open source utilities. Technical support is not provided for any of the Fedora distribution, only for Red Hat's full fee-based subscription of Linux.  Users and Developers Conference (FUDcon). Held at Boston University Boston University, at Boston, Mass.; coeducational; founded 1839, chartered 1869, first baccalaureate granted 1871. It is composed of 16 schools and colleges.  on Friday, February 18th, FUDcon is the first conference to bring together Fedora users and developers from around the world.

FUDcon 1 will provide the opportunity for the members of the open source community, including developers, users, and enterprises, that are contributing to the Fedora Project to exchange ideas, influence the direction of the Fedora Project, and advance the project forward.

The conference boasts a comprehensive agenda to address the wide range of interests and expertise of those involved in the Fedora Project. Separate tracks for users and developers will include in depth discussion sessions ranging from Stateless Refers to software that does not keep track of configuration settings, transaction information or any other data for the next session. When a program "does not maintain state" (is stateless) or when the infrastructure of a system prevents a program from maintaining state, it cannot take  Linux to the state of the Fedora Project.

Prominent keynote and session speakers include Michael Tiemann Michael Tiemann is Vice President of Open Source Affairs at Red Hat Inc, as well as President of the Open Source Initiative. He previously was the Chief Technical Officer of Red Hat. , Vice President of Open Source Affairs at Red Hat; Havoc Pennington Robert Sanford Havoc Pennington is currently a Red Hat Desktop manager/engineer, but his fame in the free software community is largely due to his work on GNOME, Metacity, GConf, D-BUS, and more. Before his Red Hat position he was one of the main developers of Debian GNU/Linux. , technical lead of the Desktop team at Red Hat; and Eric S. Raymond (person) Eric S. Raymond - One of the authors of the Hacker's Jargon File. Eric was involved in the JOLT project and GNU Emacs as well as maintaining several FAQ lists. He is a keen advocate of open source.
