The Education Plan of New Mexico and Television Station KOAT Channel 7 Announce the Final 'Student of the Month' Contest Winner for the 2003 School Year.

The Education Plan(R) of New Mexico and KOAT Action 7 News today announced Jacey Kidd as the May 2003 winner of the "Student of the Month" contest making Jacey the final winner for the 2003 school year. Jacey has won a $500 college scholarship from The Education Plan of New Mexico.

Established in 2001 by The Education Plan of New Mexico, the "Student of the Month" contest recognizes students in grades 4-12 who have demonstrated excellence in community service, academics, athletics, arts and music, or who have overcome personal obstacles or demonstrated improvement in a specific area.

Jacey, a 4th grade student at Yarbro Elementary School in Lovington, New Mexico, was nominated by his mother, LaRhonda Kidd, who describes Jacey as very compassionate and well-rounded. He is an "A" honor roll student, in the Gifted program, and plays basketball and baseball. He is also an avid fisherman.

Ms. Kidd goes on to say that for three years, Jacey has held a Labor Day lemonade stand to benefit the NM Christian Children's Home. He was the 2002 NM state winner in the KFC Colonel's Way Award contest, writing about a senior citizen that had positively influenced him; was chosen as outstanding 1st year 4-H member in Lea County; and he assists with communion each week at his church. Jacey has also volunteered at the local nursing home.
