; plot notes. JS

Although set in England, this story will have universal appeal for young people who live in a home of violence or abuse or who have to deal with bullies or racism. The story begins when Cathy, a single mother, and her 15-year-old son, Danny, literally run away from Chris, Cathy's boyfriend and abuser. They jump on a train and go back to Cathy's parents, hoping to make a clean break. This requires Cathy's father to forgive her for getting pregnant at age 15. It also means that Cathy must forgive him for abandoning her, and Danny must try to fit in at a new school where his half-black heritage is not as easily accepted as it was in London. Danny deals with racist bullies, which proves to be difficult, but not as difficult as when Chris tracks them down in what Danny had hoped was his "promised land."

The story is well read by Pride. American listeners will enjoy the cheeky cheek·y
