Eames Lounge Chair The Eames Lounge Chair and ottoman, correctly titled Eames Lounge (670) and Ottoman (671) were released in 1956 after years of development by designers Charles and Ray Eames for the Herman Miller furniture company. It was the first chair the Eames designed for a high-end market.  in production, from The Eames Lounge Chair--An Icon of Modern Design, by Martin Eidelberg et al, London: Merrell, 2006, $45, [pounds sterling]29.95. In continuous production since 1956, its familiar sleek-yet-chunky lines of leather upholstery and rosewood rosewood, popular name for the ornamental wood of several species of tropical trees, especially for the heartwood of certain leguminous trees of the genus Dalbergia of the family Leguminosae (pulse family). Brazilian rosewood, or jacaranda (D.  veneer veneer (vənēr`), thin leaf of wood applied with glue to a panel or frame of solid wood.
