The Detroit-Warren-Flint CSA's labor force contracted over the previous twelve months, with the largest losses in manufacturing. Modest employment gains were seen in the construction and natural resources sectors.

There are 306 MSAs and 428 RSAs (rural service areas) in the U.S. MSAs and RSAs are used to allocate cellular licenses.  has increased significantly, while the national jobless rate declined.

The number of permits issued in April for new housing units (including both single-family homes and units within multifamily structures) was down compared to April 2004. 2004 was a record year for homebuilding in the region.
