) National Domestic Preparedness Program. GP will develop and implement a new training program to support DHS' Office for Domestic Preparedness Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI UASI Urban Area Security Initiative

This increase in funding brings GP's total 2003 contract year award to $13.5 million in support of Weapons of Mass Destruction Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and/or of being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people. In support of DHS' recently initiated UASI, which provides priority funding and support to 30 of the nation's jurisdictions with the highest levels of risk, GP has been awarded additional funding to increase the capacity of the Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program (DPETAP DPETAP Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program ). DPETAP provides mobile teams that conduct WMD detection equipment, Mass Casualty Personnel Decontamination decontamination /de·con·tam·i·na·tion/ (de?kon-tam-i-na´shun) the freeing of a person or object of some contaminating substance, e.g., war gas, radioactive material, etc.

, and Personal Protective Equipment training and exercises on-site in participating jurisdictions. This increased funding will enable GP to provide priority scheduling for DPETAP services to the cities included in the UASI Program.

As of September 3, 2003, GP has presented 1,561 courses to 28,257 students in 138 metropolitan jurisdictions throughout the continental U.S. in support of the Office for Domestic Preparedness.
