The text has two main sections. Part 1 provides exercise routines for the beginner, fitness enthusiast, and the athlete or dancer who is in training. Part 2 addresses the exercise needs of the injured athlete or dancer, and the surgical patient.

In part 1, two primary fitness routines are presented. The Waterpower Workout is performed in chest-deep water; the Deep Waterpower Workout emphasizes deepwater walking and running. Both routines address flexibility, aerobic and anaerobic anaerobic /an·aer·o·bic/ (an?ah-ro´bik)

Part 2 of the text covers water therapy. Nonsurgical and postsurgical rehabilitation exercises are presented. The Water Healing Workout is structured so that it may be individually designed and is based on the body part that is injured, the diagnosis, and the phase of rehabilitation. The water therapy is combined with a "progressive, protective fitness program."

The text is easy to read and understand, yet it is comprehensive. Exercise terms and concepts are well defined. Hundreds of photographs supplement the written instructions. Summary sheets provide quick reference to routines. Exercise progression is clearly outlined. Safety is repeatedly emphasized; injury prevention and protection is paramount. The amount of attention given to dance and sport skill via water exercise is exceptional.

The text is written particularly for the exercise participant.
