, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1995--The Color Partnership (TCP (1) (Transmission Control Protocol) The reliable transport protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite. TCP ensures that all data arrive accurately and 100% intact at the other end. ) Thursday announced the release of the CP4000(tm) a high performance, one-pass, PMT See photomultiplier tube.  desktop drum scanner with a footprint of just 15" x 25".

The CP4000 produces 12-bit color at up to 4000 dpi, a density range of 0 to 3.8 and the removable drum has a 6 x 8 inch imaging area.

The CP4000 offers a unique combination of hardware and software tools. The software driver, Colegro, gives users of the CP4000 precise scanning in batch mode, offers professional CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow blacK) The color space used for commercial printing and most color computer printers. In theory, cyan, magenta and yellow (CMY) can print all colors, but inks are not pure and black comes out muddy.  color correction, sharpening, smoothing and separation controls and an automatic look-up table. Colegro works in a 12-bit preview mode and offers batch scanning in both transparency and reflective, positive and negative modes. In addition, the CP4000 comes with an extra drum and mounting stand to optimize productivity.

Like other drum scanners, the CP4000 works by placing an original image such as a photograph or transparency on the outside of the transparent rotary drum. Light from the scanner's internal light source is focused through a lens and aperture, then through the transparency and onto a photocell photocell: see photoelectric cell.

.

As the drum spins, the light passes through the image and is deflected by a mirror, reproducing the image on the drum. This image is filtered through photo multiplier tubes (PMT's) and separated into three colors; red, green and blue (RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity). ). The scanner operator can view the image on the computer monitor and make adjustments as needed as needed prn. See prn order. . In the case of the CP4000, controls are available for automatic focus, calibration, finding the highlight and shadow and creating an automatic look-up table.

"We have put together a bundle, with the assistance of our partners, which makes the CP4000 the highest quality, lowest-cost desktop PMT scanner on the market," says Sara Akerman of The Color Partnership. "Because of the resources available to The Color Partnership, we are able to offer this production scanner for only $15,995."

The Color Partnership (TCP), based in Del Mar, has integrated a wide range of color solutions for publishing/prepress professional and desktop publishers. TCP owns the rights to all of the technology developed for its applications and has provided custom software to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  hardware and software vendors.
