"Microprocessor microprocessor, integrated circuit containing the arithmetic, logic, and control circuitry required to interpret and execute instructions from a computer program.  Architecture: The Decade Ahead," is available on the Web at www.chalknet.com.

Developed primarily for microprocessor engineers, "Microprocessor Architecture: The Decade Ahead" examines current trends in microprocessor design. Topics covered include the future of CAD tools, the limits of technology scaling, high-speed timing considerations, and the new processor architectures. Incorporating Chalkboard's unique Depth Control(R) methodology, the course provides a variety of links, interactive examples, audio and visual explanations, and other real-time learning aids that students can access as they progress through the course.

The instructor of "Microprocessor Architecture: The Decade Ahead" is Michael Flynn. Flynn is a Professor of Electrical Engineering electrical engineering: see engineering.

at Stanford University and has an extensive background in microprocessor design. His industry accomplishments include work as design manager of several groundbreaking commercial systems, including the IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  System 360. In 1995, Flynn received the IEEE-CS IEEE-CS Computer Society of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers  Harry Goode Memorial Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the design and classification of computer architecture. In 1998, he received the Tesla Medal from the International Tesla Society. Professor Flynn is also the author of three books and more than 250 technical papers.

"This course presents an excellent ten-year forecast of trends and changes that will affect the architecture of microprocessors," said Bob Zeidman, president of The Chalkboard Network. "Many of the issues discussed in the course can provide experienced engineers with solutions to their current projects. We are delighted than an expert such as Mike Flynn Mike Flynn can refer to:
  • Mike Flynn, an American baseball player
  • Mike Flynn, an American basketball player
  • Mike Flynn, an American football player
  • Mike Flynn, an American radio host
  • Mike Flynn, an English footballer
has helped us make this course available to the public at no charge."
