The Center for Women's Sexual Health Receives Approval for Research Study Evaluating Acupuncture in the Treatment of Low Sexual Desire in Women.

This is the second study in a month to be approved for the Center which opened less than a year ago at The Woman's Hospital of Texas.

The Center for Women's Sexual Health, Baylor College of Medicine and the American College American College is the name of:

 (ACAOM ACAOM Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine ) will conduct a 6-week pilot study to determine the benefits of acupuncture in the treatment of low sexual desire in women. Women will receive acupuncture treatments twice weekly at ACAOM after being screened at the Center for Women's Sexual Health. Women will complete validated sexual health questionnaires for the initial screening process as well as at 3 and 6-week treatment intervals. Questionnaire responses will be analyzed to determine statistical and clinical significance. If significant benefit is identified, the results from this pilot study will then be used in a federal research grant proposal to the National Institute of Health.

"Women's sexual health and female sexual dysfunction are complex, dynamic processes requiring multiple avenues for both evaluation and treatment. Certainly alternative techniques should be considered as a potential treatment option," says Dr. Christopher Jayne, lead investigator for the study and Founder of The Center for Women's Sexual Health.

The Center for Women's Sexual Health is the first center of its kind in Houston specializing in women's sexual health and the treatment of female sexual dysfunction. Founded in August 2003, the Center is devoted to conducting research, and to treating women to improve their sexual health. This is the second study initiated by the Center. Earlier this month, Baylor's IRB approved the Center's first study for women experiencing difficulty with orgasm.

Baylor College of Medicine, located in Houston's Texas Medical Center, is ranked 13th overall among the nation's top academic health sciences, and is first among Texas medical schools for research and developments.
