Photographer Peter Brown and writer Kent Haruf Kent Haruf (born February 24, 1943) is an award winning American novelist. Haruf was born in Pueblo, Colorado, the son of a Methodist minister. He graduated with a BA from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1965 and an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of were awarded the $10,000 prize for their project "High Plains."
