The Cars: Greatest Hits.

The Cars: Greatest Hits. DCC Compact Classics GZS-1123.

For some readers the title The Cars: Greatest Hits may seem incongruous at least or enigmatic at best, but it is not my place to criticize the musical taste of millions of fans worldwide. If you are an admirer of the Cars, circa 1978-85, you will no doubt find this new 24K release the best example of their work on disc. DCC engineer Steve Hoffman has remastered each selection from its original master tape, and the results are impressive. I would point out transient impact and definition as the album's most impressive sonic features; they are qualities that demonstrate Mr. Hoffman's insistence upon good-sounding material to begin with, and his expertise in translating that sound to gold. The disc may not excite every music lover, but it is sure to please the audiophile in all of us.
