Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the controversial German head of the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) (Congregatio pro Doctrina Fidei), previously known as the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office, is the oldest of the nine congregations of the Roman Curia. , recently turned 75 and may be getting ready to retire to his Bavarian home--or maybe not! While many Catholic liberals will breathe a little easier when that day comes, there are those who'd love to keep the "Panzer Kardinal" on as long as possible.
