The Broadmoor.Turning Dreams Into Reality What started out as a grand concept for the "Grand Dame of the Rockies" last November is quickly becoming a reality as the first phase of The Broadmoor's $72 million renovation comes to a close. The final phase begins this fall, and is expected to run through May 2002. The new main pool at the north end of Cheyenne Lake is impressive in both size and scope: At 11,000 square feet, the Pool holds more than 320,000 gallons of water. "It's just Like you were walking into the Lake," says project director Terry McHale. The innovative design gives the impression that the pool is part of the lake itself. Called Infinity infinity, in mathematics, that which is not finite. A sequence of numbers, a1, a2, a3, … , is said to "approach infinity" if the numbers eventually become arbitrarily large, i.e. Edge, this style is quite popular in Mexican and Caribbean resorts. Located on the west bank of the new pool area is a delightful, dual-tube waterslide for adults and kids alike. "Two Falls" features its own splash-down pond and swimming access back to the main pool. Other features of the complex include two large whirlpools on the lake's edge, with spectacular views of Cheyenne Mountain Cheyenne Mountain, c.9,565 ft (2,915 m), in the Front Range of the Rocky Mts., El Paso co., central Colo., SW of Colorado Springs. Halfway up the mountain, in North Cheyenne Park, is the Shrine of the Sun Memorial, erected in memory of Will Rogers. . The children's pool on the east bank is large and inviting, with bubble-jet fountains perfect for water play. Luxury poolside pool·side n. A Spanish development of the Roman atrium, it is comparable to the Italian cortile but provides more seclusion, possibly due to Moorish custom. And, of course, walkers and joggers can still enjoy the lakeside path for morning constitutionals or romantic evening strolls. Lakeside Suites, which opened last month, is located just north of The Broadmoor's main building. This four-story structure designed in the same classic Broadmoor style, houses a total of 21 spectacular and spacious suites--six on the lake level; seven each on the second and third floors; and a fourth level, 1,800-square-foot penthouse penthouse Enclosed area on top of a building. A penthouse can be an apartment on the roof or top floor of a building or a structure on the roof housing the top of an elevator shaft, air-conditioning equipment, or stairs leading to the roof. suite. All rooms face west with unobstructed views of the lake and the mountains, and each suite features individual fireplaces, spacious bathrooms with separate shower and tub facilities, and either individual patios or balconies. The entry to Lakeside Suites is a spacious salon that incorporates a fireplace fireplace Opening made in the base of a chimney to hold an open fire. The opening is framed, usually ornamentally, by a mantel (or mantelpiece).
