) has selected TekInsight's e-Government Services to connect its several independent public health databases. The integrated Public Health Information System (PHIS) will provide public health information to City of Boston officials. The 18-month project for application development is valued at $1.9 million and began August 21, 2000. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2001. TekInsight e-Government Services will create and reconfigure a new solution for the transformation of current BPHC fragmented applications into a single enterprise system.

"TekInsight's e-Government Services brings the necessary experience and resources to integrate and streamline disparate public health databases. The aggregated data will provide the Boston public health community with the ability to manage programs more effectively, analyze data in greater detail, serve constituents more effectively and interpret local public health trends," said Alex Kalpaxis, Chairman of TekInsight.com. "The BPHC selection of TekInsight e-Government Services demonstrates our ability to provide customers with a beneficial e-gov solution in a timely manner."

During the past 10 years, as the business process and public health programs have evolved at the BPHC, several independent information systems have been designed and implemented to satisfy the requirements for collecting and reporting data.  BPHC has grown rapidly and new challenges have become apparent - including maintaining applications as business processes and rules change, integrating data across disparate systems, creating a user-friendly interface and providing quick and reliable access to data.

While RTS continues to address the BPHC's immediate information system needs, its goal is to update its systems in order to provide a seamless and coordinated system that can be used in more than 25 different service areas.

"We are looking to TekInsight e-Government Services to develop an integrated system that allows our programs to provide the highest level of service for Boston residents" said Lise Fried, Director of Research and Technology Services.

The BPHC's Public Health Information System is a natural extension of public health promotion and disease prevention that will assist in improving and enhancing the quality of life for Boston residents. The PHIS will play a critical role in the development of public health care policy and provide detailed information about public health priorities as well as evaluate effectiveness, overall accessibility and quality of public health -based services.
