The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's board has elected Robert L. Shoptaw as chairman.

Shoptaw, chief executive officer of Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield, succeeds Michael B. Unhjem, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota.

As chairman, Shoptaw assumes leadership of the association's governing body which sets policies for the nation's 42 independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.
