The residents of Kingsmarkham are facing unrelenting rain and imminent flooding from an overflowing river. When the children's annoying parents return from a weekend away, the mother is convinced that the children have drowned in the flood though the flood water is nowhere near their house. It's an odd case and Wexford and Burden uncover all the clues in the usual manner.

Those who followed the A&E television series will be pleased to recognize the voice for Detective Chief Inspector Wexford; Anthony has captured the voice and accent of actor George Baker, who played Wexford. A well-written mystery.
