The Babcock & Wilcox Company to Supply Boiler and Environmental Equipment for New Nevada Power Plant.


BARBERTON, Ohio -- The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W), a subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc., has received a contract valued at more than $40 million from Fluor Enterprises, Inc., to provide a 220-megawatt (MW) coal-fired boiler and associated environmental equipment for a new power plant to be built in Nevada, subject to Newmont Board and permit approvals. , will supply electricity for Newmont Mining Corporation's operations in northern Nevada. Located approximately three miles north of Dunphy, Nevada, the plant is expected to go online before summer 2008. E[acute accent]B&W's project scope includes the engineering, design and supply of a 220 MW pulverized coal-fired Radiant Boiler, including 18 DRB-4Z(TM) Burners with igniters; two primary, two forced draft, two induced draft, and two seal air fans with motors; steam drum and internals; primary, platen and secondary superheaters; reheater and economizer; regenerative air heater A Regenerative air heater is a type of air preheater used in power plants to heat air without mixing different flows of air. There are two types being used
  • Rothemuhle type: heat exchanger fixed, ducts are moved
  • Ljungstrom type: heat exchanger is moving

B&W's subsidiary in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada will fabricate the boiler drum, downcomers and several large headers. The majority of the pressure parts will be fabricated by B&W's joint venture, Babcock & Wilcox Beijing Company, Ltd. (BWBC), in China.
