Arts jobs are being cut because of budget constraints A Budget Constraint represents the combinations of goods and services that a consumer can purchase given current prices and his income. Consumer theory uses the concepts of a budget constraint and a preference ordering to analyze consumer choices. . Disappointing, but not surprising. It seems that support for arts education will continue to be at risk with the ever-increasing emphasis on standardized tests A standardized test is a test administered and scored in a standard manner. The tests are designed in such a way that the "questions, conditions for administering, scoring procedures, and interpretations are consistent" [1] . Teachers are besieged be·siege

by demands from the federal and state governments to get test scores up. So, where does that leave the arts?

We simply are not doing a good enough job of positioning the arts front and center in our schools and communities so that folks in budgetary power get the message. We must take action to keep the importance of arts education on people's minds. So, what can we do? Try the following:

* Communicate with administrators and legislators. Write letters.

* Keep school officials, legislators, and the media informed about your programs, challenges, and successes. Invite them to your art shows and events. If they attend, introduce them to the audience and thank them.

* Keep sharing the benefits of art education and its effect on learning and a positive school climate.

* Let elected officials know that your political choices depend on public support for arts education.
