"The Adventure of the Gloria Scott" is more a sailor's colorful tale than a full description of Sherlock Holmes' detecting powers. There seems to be much of Holmes' own study of medicine in "The Resident Patient"--a young doctor wanting to explore nervous diseases is financially backed by a reclusive re·clu·sive

The listener learns that Holmes, by now an expert solver, has some progressive social views. It is in the last story, "The Adventure of the Final Problem," that Holmes is at his greatest intensity. He confronts "the Napoleon of crime," and Holmes and Professor Moriarty Professor James Moriarty is a fictional character who is the best known antagonist (and archenemy) of the detective Sherlock Holmes.
