The Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) National Team.The Advanced Extremely High Frequency The Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) system is a joint service satellite communications system that provides global, secure, protected, and jam resistant communications for high-priority military ground, sea, and air assets. (AEHF AEHF American Environmental Health Foundation AEHF Advanced Extremely High Frequency ) National Team, comprised of Lockheed Martin, Sunnyvale, Calif., and TRW Inc., Redondo Beach, Calif., is being awarded a $2,698,000,000 (not-to-exceed) firm-fixed-price and cost-plus award fee contract to provide for the System Development and Demonstration phase of the AEHF satellite communication system program. This effort includes production of two satellites, replacement and upgrade of existing military satellite communication (MILSATCOM MILSATCOM Military Satellite Communications ) ground command and control segment components to support AEHF and associated sustainment. The AEHF system provides secure, survivable communications to warfighters during all levels of conflict and is the protected backbone of the Department of Defense's MILSATCOM architecture. At this time, $12,250,000 of the funds has been obligated. This work will be complete December 2011. Solicitation for this sole source contract began in October 2000, and negotiations were completed November 2001. The contractors will performed this effort in Sunnyvale, Calif. (45%), and Redondo, Calif. (55%). The Space and Missile Systems Center Based out of Los Angeles Air Force Base in California, the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) is a part of Air Force Space Command of the United States Air Force.
