Motorola, Inc. (NYSE NYSE

The test found no significant electromagnetic conflicts or adverse affect between the PageWriter 2000X personal interactive communicator and the designated hospital equipment tested.

The independent test funded by Motorola was conducted to assess the radiated radio frequency (RF) immunity of several types of medical machinery. Four PageWriter 2000X personal interactive communicators, configured in "test mode" for the highest output power possible, were utilized in the test. The wireless devices were used in conjunction with eight different pieces of hospital equipment which included: a ventilatory system, defibrillator defibrillator, device that delivers an electrical shock to the heart in order to stop certain forms of rapid heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias). The shock changes a fibrillation to an organized rhythm or changes a very rapid and ineffective cardiac rhythm to a  analyzer, physio physio

The Center conducted 256 "test runs" -- defined as a single combination of the levels of pager and medical device variables -- which resulted in no significant interference with the devices. Two different orientations of the devices, vertical and horizontal, along four different axes (0 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, 270 degrees) were examined.

"We are delighted that our PageWriter 2000X personal interactive communicator operated in this setting without disrupting the functions of these medical devices," stated Amy Kabcenell, Director, Distribution Marketing, PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995.
