thoughts and feelings while coping with cancer. She details her journey, beginning with her initial diagnosis, through her complicated surgery and nauseating chemotherapy. Like many cancer victims, Williams readily admits to moments of doubt and fear. But despite those moments when she wavered in her faith, Williams returns again and again to the religious upbringing nurtured by her parents. It is, she says, what allowed her to "trust God even when I could not trace Him."

Williams, who grew up in Trinidad, reveals how having cancer affected her family. She describes her reluctance to reveal the diagnosis to her husband, children and sister. To illustrate how the illness affects others, Tested Faith includes Williams's husband's account of his thoughts, while waiting for her to regain consciousness after surgery, and how coping with her illness led him to develop a deeper relationship with God. Though insightful in revealing how cancer affects the entire family, his account seems to interrupt the flow of the writer's voice Writer's voice is a literary term used to describe the individual writing style of an author. Voice is a combination of a writer's use of syntax, diction, punctuation, character development, dialogue, etc., within a given body of text (or across several works). .

Williams briefly devotes some of the book to describe how her lifestyle, her position as a corporate executive in a very stressful job, and her failure to love and nurture herself were contributing factors to her developing cancer. A bit more attention to this idea might have been useful to readers.

Nevertheless, Tested Faith affirms the experiences of cancer survivors Cancer survivors are those individuals with cancer of any type, current or past, who are still living. The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) pioneered the definition of survivor as from the time of diagnosis and for the balance of life, a person diagnosed with  and their families, and it gives hope to those who face illness. Anyone who has weathered serious illness and tested the limits of their faith will be inspired by the journey of a walking miracle, Yvonne L. Williams.
