Test program for police and mental health system in BC.

VANCOUVER -- The Canadian Mental Health Association The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) was founded on January 26, 1918 by Dr. Clarence M. Hincks and Clifford W. Beers. Originally named the Canadian National Committee for Mental Hygiene  of British Columbia launched a program to improve responses by police to people with mental illness in crisis.

The six-month pilot project, Building Capacity: Mental Health and Police Project will be tested in six communities: Cranbrook, Williams Lake, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Richmond and Delta.

The CMHA published a report in 2004, A Study in Blue and Grey which examined key components of effective police response to people with mental illness and strategies for implementation of such responses within existing service systems. Services Authority.
