Terminal Overhaul: The LAX Board of Airport Commissioners unanimously approved a plan to overhaul the Tom Bradley International Terminal for a price of $503.5 million. With unforeseen contingencies, insurance, consultants, and other expenses, the total cost for renovating the terminal could be $723.5 million. The Los Angeles City Council still needs to approve the contract. The renovation, planned for completion in 2009, would include a new baggage system, new signs, video displays, and boarding bridges, as well as upgrades of the bathrooms and VIP lounges. The terminal will stay open during construction. The airport commission voted to award the main contract to Clark Construction Group and McCarthy Building Cos. Inc., which also worked on the USC Medical Center. Most of the costs will be covered by rents and fees paid by the airlines. The rest will come from ticket revenue, federal grants and concession rents.
