Teranex Delivers TeraOps of Performance; Next-Generation Image Processing Technology Demonstrated at NAB 2004.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2004

Teranex, Inc., the leader in image processing image processing

Set of computational techniques for analyzing, enhancing, compressing, and reconstructing images. Its main components are importing, in which an image is captured through scanning or digital photography; analysis and manipulation of the image, accomplished
for digital media content, will introduce a new line of products based on their next-generation, patented array processing Array processing is signal processing of the outputs of an array of sensors to:
  • Enhance the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) compared to that of a single sensor using conventional or adaptive beamforming.
chip, code named P4K P4K Playing 4 Keeps (gaming) . This new platform will deliver a 10x performance increase over the previous version.

The P4K array processor chip can bring supercomputer performance for image processing applications to the desktop. For example, a PC outfitted with Teranex technology will provide approximately 1.6 TeraOps of performance, reducing the time required for processor-intensive high-definition rendering effects by one-third. At this level of performance, the PC would qualify as one of the most powerful image processing systems in the world.

"This supercomputer technology on a chip allows Teranex to deliver products on a PC that are not even available on expensive, high-end workstations," said Janet Leising, vice president of marketing, Teranex. "What's exciting is the unprecedented ability for this technology to offer real-time, resolution-independent image processing on the desktop. This will improve the way content is developed and open the door to added creativity and productivity in high-definition workflow."

About P4K

The P4K chip is a massively parallel See MPP.  supercomputer organized in a two dimensional Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD (Single Instruction stream Multiple Data stream) A computer that performs one operation on multiple sets of data. It is typically used to add or multiply eight or more sets of numbers at the same time for multimedia encoding and rendering as well as scientific ) architecture with 4096 RISC-type computers on a single chip operating in unison. The computers, called Pixel Elements (PEs) are arranged in a two-dimensional grid -- 64 PEs wide by 64 PEs high -- providing the building block for system scalability. Scalability is achieved by creating an array of P4K chips providing linear performance improvements with each chip executing more than 400 Giga operations per second.
