SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 30, 1996--Privately held Template Graphics Software Inc. (TGS) Monday announced that it is a founding and charter member of the newly formed VRML Consortium, the organization that will formalize the process for defining new features for the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML).

VRML is an emerging Internet standard for interactive 3D on the Web.

Teamed with Silicon Graphics Inc. in April 1995, TGS implemented the first-ever VRML browser WebSpace Navigator for Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 95, and gained the endorsement of Digital Equipment Corp., Netscape, Spyglass and 14 other organizations for VRML as a subset of Open Inventor(TM).

Since the introduction of VRML, TGS has been first to develop C++ toolkits and end-user products, which have gained widespread use for developing and using 3D/VRML on Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 95.

Software products from TGS have been selected by Microsoft Corp. for Visual C++ and the Microsoft Internet Explorer Starter Kit, which is bundled with Windows 95. Digital Equipment ships evaluation versions of TGS 3Space(TM) Assistant, a desktop CAD/VRML viewer, with every new Windows NT Alpha and Intel workstation sold.

A pioneer in the Virtual Reality Modeling Language, an Internet 3D standard, TGS was selected by Silicon Graphics to implement the PC version of WebSpace Navigator, the first-ever 3D/VRML browser. TGS is a founding and charter member of the VRML Consortium and is a corporate sponsor of the San Diego Supercomputer Center's VRML Repository.

TGS products include implementations of Silicon Graphics' OpenGL(R) and Open Inventor C++ toolkit, the 3Space(TM) Control ActiveX(TM) component for Microsoft Visual Basic(R) and Internet Explorer, the 3Space Explorer VRML browser and the 3Space Assistant CAD/VRML viewer for Microsoft Office.

TGS recently introduced the 3D-MasterSuite for C++, a collection of tools for interactive 3D graphics development with integrated vector hard copy, VRML 2.0, charting and high-end visualization capabilities. Also new is 3Space Publisher, a 3D authoring application that creates titles for animated GIF, Java and VRML.
