MTX fiber-optic infrared temperature transducer for nonintrusive measurement of melt temperatures has response time of 10 millisec, detects highly transient melt temperatures for tight process control, and resists abrasion from filled materials. Withstands pressures to 30,000 psi at up to 800 F.

AutoProbes I and II traveling melt thermocouples measure temperature variations in the melt stream, which affect product conformity and gauge thickness. AutoProbe I penetrates melt stream at a rate of 0.139 in./min, producing a continuous analog indication of melt temperature. Pneumatically actuated AutoProbe II penetrates melt stream up to 1.5 in. in less than one sec, senses temperature at the predetermined point, and retracts, minimizing stream perturbation. Both models have manual or automatic operation modes and 0-5 to 0-10 VDC output signals.

With its compact design (0.625-in. diam. x 2.25-in. long), the instrument can withstand operating environments up to 257 F without artificial cooling. Ball-and-socket swivel mount included. Signal conditioning is accomplished with optional Model 600 transmitter, which provides an RS-232C signal as well as analog output. Software allows settings to be changed from a PC. EXTECH INSTRUMENTS CORP.

Temperature/process controllers and indicators include VT series of 1/16-DIN (48VT) and 1/4-DIN (96VT) autotuning PID controllers. Dual four-digit LED displays for setpoint and process variables. Inputs include thermocouple, RTD, current, and voltage. One-touch autotune function automatically computes optimum PID values. Also can be used for on/off control. Control action either a 5A relay, 420 mA current, or pulsed 24-VDC to drive a solid-state relay. User-selectable heating or cooling. Five-amp alarm relay outputs standard on both models, with two on the 96VT.

Other units include 1/16-, 1/8- and 1/4-DIN temperature controllers with analog or digital setpoints and on/off or proportional control.

FAST HEAT INC.

Conductor series microprocessor-based temperature controllers available with field interchangeable 15- and 30amp modules. Standard mainframes include single, five, nine and twelve zones. Up to 128 zones can be configured by combining mainframes or custom freestanding control systems. Features include three-function LED display, dualfunction digital set-point, full diagnostics for each individual zone, and auto-soft as-needed warm-up mode, which detects the amount of ground fault present on each heater zone. Noncontact infrared thermometers operate in harsh environments from -50 to 6500 F. Series 43 and 48, operating at 3.43 microns and 7.95 microns respectively, are best suited for polyethylene and polyester films.

LAND INFRARED

Minolta/Land Portable Cyclops 343 and Cyclops 79 hand-held infrared thermometers make precise spot-temperature measurements ([+ or -]1% of reading) on thin-film plastics over measurement range of 30 to 700 F. Battery-powered Cyclops 343 has narrow-band spectral response centered at 3.43 [[micro]meter] and makes measurements on hydrocarbon polymer films (PE, PP and PVC) down to 0.001 in. Cyclops 79 has a narrow-band spectral response centered at 7.92 [[micro]meter] and makes measurements on polyesters, fluoroplastics, and polyimide films down to 0.001 in. thick.

Additional features include Minolta focusing reflex optics for accurate target definition; digital temperature display in field of view; choice of peak hold, valley hold, or continuous operation; and built-in calculating to compute maximum, minimum or mean of a series of readings. LFE INSTRUMENTS

LFE Model 3000 1/4-DIN dual-loop process controller uses a high-visibility vacuum fluorescent display and allows total configuration of three inputs and up to four outputs. Standard version provides for configuration of inputs and outputs, as well as profiles (up to 99), alarms and triggers, data logging, macros and history files. Mathematics version contains the standard features plus cascade, feed forward, and ration control, as well as 64 equations, 32 constants and memories, and Boolean logic. Pupnet 2 software provides total configuration and control monitoring from a PC with communication option. Controller is UL recognized.

LINEAR LABORATORIES

Noncontact infrared sensors provide continuous temperature measurement of moving, fragile, or unsafe targets without product contamination. Fixed and portable units have measurement ranges from -70 F to 3000 F.

MX-series fixed units offer high-resolution optics for readings as precise as [+ or -]1% every 300 millisec. MX-HT is for extremely harsh industrial applications at temperatures up to 3000 F. Difficult temperature measurements, such as on tenter frames for extremely thin films, use thermometers employing precise narrow-band infrared filters. This technique enables the device to measure the surface temperature of film without looking through the film or being influenced by the background.

Monitoring and controlling temperatures during heating in infrared or hot-oil ovens is possible by measuring product temperature itself, rather than measuring air or heater temperatures.
