Tembec, Temiscaming, Quebec, Canada, said it will shut down its Kirkland Lake, Ontario Kirkland Lake is a town located in Timiskaming District in northeastern Ontario, Canada. The 2006 population, according to Statistics Canada, was 8,248.

The lake nearby was named after Winnifred Kirkland, a secretary of the Ontario Department of Mines in Toronto.

In addition: Tembec recently acquired the assets of the Chetwynd high yield pulp mill from Louisiana-Pacific Canada Pulp Co. and Louisiana-Pacific Ltd. The mill, in northern British Columbia, Canada, has been idle since April 2001. Tembec plans to spend C$ 20 million (US$ 12.6 million) in process and equipment modifications and expects to restart the mill by January 2003.
