Tembec Inc. - Malette Inc. Purchases two Ontario Sawmills.

.A) Malette Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tembec Inc., today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Noranda Forest to purchase two sawmills located in Cochrane, Ontario, and Kenogami, Ontario, together with related inventory and timber cutting rights for an undisclosed purchase price.

The mills have a combined capacity of 160 million board feet per year and the timber cutting rights will entitle Malette to cut up to 634,000 cubic meters per year. The transaction expected to close in April, 1996.

Malette is an integrated forest products company which is engaged in the production of lumber, bleached kraft pulp and oriented structural board (OSB OSB

) and the management and development of forest resources. In addition, Malette owns and indirect 42 percent interest in Malette Quebec Inc., which produces machine finish coated paper Coated paper is paper which has been coated by an inorganic compound to impart certain qualities to the paper, including weight and surface gloss, smoothness or ink absorbency. Kaolinite is the compound most often used for coating papers used in commercial printing.  and OSB.
