Business Editors/High Tech Writers

ROCHESTER, U.K.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 2000

Dialogic Technology Will Enable the Telspec Platform to Scale to More

Lines Per Chassis as Well as Support New Multicast Voice Over IP

Services

Telspec, a leading provider of access and switching solutions to worldwide telecommunications service providers, today announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a legal document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action and may not imply a legal commitment.  (MoU) with Dialogic Corporation, an Intel company.

Under the terms of the MoU, Dialogic will provide key voice over IP (VoIP), microprocessor and network interface technologies to enhance the capabilities of Telspec's next generation Intelligent Multi-Service Platform (IMSP IMSP Internet Message Support Protocol

). The two companies will also engage in joint marketing and promotional activities and work together to propose technical solutions for service providers.

The Telspec IMSP is one of the industry's first network-based systems to combine a switching platform, a VoIP gateway and a value-added services platform in a single system. The product is targeted at telcos, Intelligent Network operators, ISPs and other network-based service providers. Value-added services that can be provided from the IMSP platform today include calling card, unified messaging Having access to e-mail, voice mail and faxes via a common computer application or by telephone. For example, unified messaging may send faxes and digitized voice mail to a mail server that turns them into e-mail attachments.  and televoting services.

As a result of the technical enhancements being made to the IMSP through the introduction of Dialogic's technology, the platform will be able to support:
-- Higher densities (up to 240 lines per chassis)

-- Multicast Voice over IP services for live audio distribution (a

technique that optimises use of an IP network for large-scale live audio services)

These enhancements are expected to be available to customers by 1st Quarter 2001.

Dialogic platforms

Within the IMSP, Telspec is integrating Dialogic's QuadSpanT voice processing The computerized handling of voice, which includes voice store and forward, voice response, voice recognition and text to speech technologies.  and network interface technology as well as its IPLinkT VoIP technology. The Dialogic QuadSpan(TM) platform provides up to 120 ports of DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  processing and four E-1 (Primary Rate ISDN ISDN

Both are based on the Dialogic DM3 mediastream resource architecture that provides a hardware foundation for the most powerful and scalable standards-based, carrier-grade platforms in the industry. The DM3 architecture supports a broad range of multimedia types including speech recognition, conferencing, voice, fax, and text-to-speech.

"We are very pleased to be extending our relationship with Telspec," said Howard Bubb, president, Dialogic Corporation, and vice president, Intel Communications Products Group. "As organisations continue to implement e-business solutions, and as the role of leading network-based service providers evolves, Telspec is addressing the needs of major operators such as BT with innovative, large-scale and practical solutions."

About the IMSP

Telspec's Intelligent Multi-Service Platform integrate narrowband switching, Voice over IP gateway and Intelligent Network services into a single system, allowing a seamless transition from today's circuit-switched networks to the new converged networks based on the Internet Protocol.
