It is the only C-130 training base for the Department of Defense, and trains C-130 pilots, navigators, flight engineers, and loadmasters,  (LRAFB LRAFB Little Rock Air Force Base (Arkansas; US Air Force) ), Ark., will benefit from enhanced network speed and reliability as a result of a site survey, engineering integration and installation (SSEI&I) contract awarded to Telos[R] Corporation. Using the Air Force's Network Centric Solutions (NETCENTS NETCENTS Network-Centric Solutions (US Air Force) ) contract vehicle, the Combat Information Transport System program office has awarded Telos a contract in excess of $2.6 million to survey and update the base's Information Transport System (ITS) backbone.

The SSEI&I incorporates a survey of the existing fiber optic backbone, an analysis of bandwidth capacity against requirements and the installation of new fiber and network equipment to support network operations. Throughout the process Telos will determine the most cost effective life cycle solution for updating LRAFB's access to the Air Force network.

. Gen. Jim Morehouse, NETCENTS program manager for Telos, explained that readiness is improved when commands invest in upgrading technology. "Little Rock Air Force Base is the largest C-130 training base. Its primary mission is to train aircrew members from all services and 27 nations," said Morehouse. "Successful fulfillment of that mission means, not only that personnel have a reliable network on which to carry out standard operations, but also that they have a fully scalable network capable of ramping up bandwidth during increased operational tempo."

The SSEI&I at LRAFB is part of an ongoing initiative of the Combat Information Transport System program office designed to install data, voice and video connectivity at fixed Air Force bases worldwide.
