Tell your senators to pass association health plan legislation.

As reported in October's Club Management, the U.S. House passed legislation enabling health coverage to be purchased through associations. This legislation would provide small businesses the opportunity to band together through professional associations such as CMAA CMAA Club Managers Association of America
CMAA Construction Management Association of America
CMAA Crane Manufacturers Association of America
CMAA Country Music Association of Australia
CMAA Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement
to purchase affordable health benefits. It is now up to the Senate to pass this legislation, which is supported by President Bush. Below is a sample letter you can send to your senators The term Senators can refer to:
  • The pop band from Paisley in the 1960s
  • The pop band from the 1990s
  • The members (or legislators) of a senate
  • The Singing Senators, a group of U.S. Republican Senators who sang as a barbershop quartet.
to let them know you support the passage of this bill.

of yours, and I have (NUMBER) employees.

As a small businessperson, I am concerned about the rising cost of healthcare. Because I want to provide good benefits for my employees, I urge you to support H.R. 660/S. 545 and its efforts to make health care more accessible through Association Health Plans (AHPs).

Cost is the number one reason small business owners can't afford to provide health insurance to their employees. Association Health Plan legislation would help by saving small businesses 15-30 percent in health insurance costs. AHPs would enable me to offer better health insurance.

This legislation would allow me to group together with other clubs to purchase more affordable insurance through our professional association. Large employers and unions are already allowed to take advantage of these economies of scale and administrative efficiencies, and I believe that is it only fair to allow small businesses the same opportunity. Without AHPs, I am at a competitive disadvantage In policy debate, a disadvantage (abbreviated as DA, and sometimes referred to as a Disad) is an argument that a team brings up against a policy action that is being considered.  and end up paying more to provide health benefits to my employees.

As you may know, 60 percent of the uninsured in our country are currently employed by a small business. By supporting AHP's, you provide small businesses a viable solution for addressing the cost problems that prevent many employers from providing better coverage to more people. AHPs also afford our members a better chance to contribute to the effort of expanding healthcare access for the uninsured.

I hope I can count on your support for this sensible sensible /sen·si·ble/ (sen´si-b'l)
