Telewest, UK Expands Micromuse's Netcool(R) Solutions to Provide Service Assurance of New Video on Demand Offering; UK's Leading Triple Play Provider Uses Netcool(R) Solutions for End-to-End Management and Visualization of Converged IP Services.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of ultra-scalable, realtime business and service assurance software, today announced that Telewest, a UK broadband communications and media group, has selected Netcool as the core service management solution for its Video on Demand service. Micromuse's Netcool solutions were first deployed by Telewest in 2004, and are being expanded to provide complete end-to-end service assurance and visualization across all Telewest's broadband, digital television, and corporate sector products.

Telewest markets broadband communications and media services to 4.7 million homes in the UK and delivers multi-channel television, telephone, and internet services to 1.8 million residential customers. Telewest Business, the company's business division, supplies broadband communications to the public and private sector markets and its content division, Flextech, is the BBC's partner in UKTV. Together they are the largest supplier of basic channels to the UK pay-TV market with a portfolio that combines wholly owned and managed channels, including ten joint venture channels with the BBC.

Telewest chose to expand its existing Netcool deployment to augment realtime service quality management of its IP networks. Telewest has implemented Micromuse's Netcool family of products for consolidated operations management and around-the-clock monitoring of its 60,000 km fiber and coaxial network, including systems, applications, elements, and devices. The extended solution will provide Telewest with automated, flexible discovery and dynamic fault mapping along with advanced fault correlation, analytics, and automations of its IP-based services. Telewest also selected the Netcool Dashboards solution for realtime business and service views, and trended reporting. The complete Netcool solution is designed to provide an end-to-end platform for the rapid identification, prioritization and resolution of service-affecting faults, enabling Telewest to prioritize resources by service, region or customer.

Accenture, the global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company and a Micromuse Value Added Reseller, delivered the design of Telewest's initial Netcool-based IP service management and provided expertise for the rollout of Telewest's Video on Demand service.
