Telelogic Leads the Way to Deliver Next Generation Test Tool.

Telelogic (Stockholm Exchange:TLOG), the leading global provider of solutions for advanced software and systems development, today presented further details regarding the development of its next generation test tool in connection with the Eurostar 2001 test fair in Stockholm. The tool, which is developed in cooperation with Nokia Research Center, will be the first test development tool on the market that supports the new test language TTCN-3.

Nokia Research Center sees advantages in being part of the development Telelogic and Nokia Research Center have joined forces to develop the TTCN-3 based test tool. "By being directly involved in the development work we can be confident that the result matches our requirements in terms of functionality and quality," explains Dr. Colin Willcock, Research Manager at Nokia. "Nokia's early involvement in the design of the tool ensures that the new product will be even more user friendly than existing test tools," Willcock continues.

While Telelogic and Nokia are developing the first TTCN-3 based test development tool, ETSI is developing the TTCN-3 language itself. "The main drivers behind the new language are ETSI's members," says Anthony Wiles, Manager of the ETSI Protocol and Testing Competence Centre. "TTCN is a language specifically designed for testing, and with the new syntax and operational semantics in TTCN-3, the language will be much easier to adopt for software engineers. At ETSI we are already using TTCN-3 to specify tests for SIP (the IETF Session Initiation Protocol) and the ETSI TIPHON OSP (Open Settlement Protocol)."

ETSI sees several advantages in the joint tool development project of Telelogic and Nokia. "We are extremely positive to this approach. The aim of ETSI is to develop a language that meets the needs of the market," explains Anthony Wiles. "At the same time it is very important that there are reliable and sophisticated tools that support the new language both for the production and execution of TTCN-3 test suites. Therefore the cooperation between Nokia and Telelogic is very much appreciated by us. By combining Nokia's testing knowledge and Telelogic's tool development skills, the result should be very beneficial for companies looking for an efficient test tool."

Integration and migration possibilities

It will also be possible to integrate Telelogic's new test tool with other development tools. The intention is that the new tool will support integrations with both requirements and configuration management tools. "The test engineers will be able to automatically connect requirements with test cases and keep a multi-user test development project up to date with different versions of the project. Thus it is easy to assure that all requirements have been tested for a specific version of the software," explains Ingemar Ljungdahl. " For companies already using a TTCN-2 tool, we will provide a smooth migration to TTCN-3."
