Teleglobe Connects China Education & Research Network -CERNET- to Global Internet.

Teleglobe, one of the world's leading global carriers and Internet backbone providers, and Tsinghua University in Beijing, the operator of the China Education & Research Network (CERNET CERNET China Education and Research Network ), today signed an agreement for Teleglobe to provide high-speed global Internet connectivity via its Internet backbone service, Globeinternet(sm).

The agreement reflects the growing trend of the global educational and research community to rely on Teleglobe's Internet backbone, currently linking Internet service providers (ISPs) in more than 70 countries.

The signing ceremony took place at INET'98, the Internet Society's annual conference, for which Teleglobe is providing conference attendees with 4 Mbps of global Internet capacity via its Frankfurt Globeinternet Point of Presence (POP).

The link will consist of earth station and backhaul circuit connectivity services by China Telecom to Tsinghua University; space segment via China Telecom and Teleglobe jointly leased INTELSAT space segment capacity; and corresponding earth station and backhaul capacity to a Globeinternet access node in North America.

Teleglobe also will provide a Quality of Service (QOS) operating system, enabling higher priority traffic to flow ahead of other network traffic during periods of congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

Teleglobe's worldwide Internet backbone and IP routing service, Globeinternet, connects educational research networks and ISPs outside the United States with dedicated international fiber-optic and/or satellite transmission facilities at speeds of 64 Kbps to 155 Mbps.

Teleglobe recently added a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). ) service via INTELSAT 335.5 and, later this year, will add INTELSAT 342.
