Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field) is a NASA center, located in Cleveland, Ohio between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and the Rocky River Reservation (part of the Cleveland Metroparks).  issued this $1.5 million contract option as part of an ongoing development of fuel cell power plants for space applications.

The 300 watt power system is designed to be used to test and further optimize the water management system and less complex, passive components developed in earlier contract options. Operational test profiles may be based on one or more lunar robotic/exploration missions being considered by NASA.

"Teledyne is pleased to extend its participation in NASA's exploration programs as a leading supplier of advanced space power systems," said Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Teledyne Technologies. "With the continuation of this project, combined with the ongoing development of a Multi-Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator A radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) is a simple electrical generator which obtains its power from radioactive decay. In such a device, the heat released by the decay of a suitable radioactive material is converted into electricity by the Seebeck effect using an  for the 2009 Mars Science Laboratory This article or section documents a scheduled or expected spaceflight. In the previous phases of this project, Teledyne Energy Systems developed a prototype and an Engineering Model of an advanced PEM fuel cell system that produces over 12 kilowatts of power at 30 volts. The Engineering Model was delivered to NASA in August 2005 and is currently undergoing testing in NASA facilities. Teledyne also reached 13,500 hours of continuous fuel cell operation, exceeding NASA's target of 10,000 hours.

PEM fuel cells convert the energy available in hydrogen and oxygen to electricity and water. Under development by Teledyne for an array of applications, PEM fuel cells offer advantages over other space power technologies, such as the potential for lower cost due to their wider commercial uses, lower maintenance costs, and a greater peak power capability.
