Telecommunications Minister Opens Telexpo 2005; Brazilian Government's Concern Over Digital Inclusion and the Restructuring of ANATEL Addressed During Ceremony.

 PAULO, Brazil -- The opening ceremony for the 15th edition of Telexpo, the premier telecom and IT event in the Americas, took place Monday at Expo Center Norte, in Sao Paulo. Elifas Chaves Gurgel took advantage of the event to talk about ANATEL's restructuring by the end of March and the organization's concern in carrying out its regulatory role in the new contexts of convergence and of technological innovation. "The challenge is to get regulation up to speed in the new scenario, which has been created by convergence and by technological innovation. This phenomenon will have a relevant impact on the whole telecommunication value chain," said Gurgel.

Telexpo runs through March 4th and will be visited by over 45,000 professionals including government representatives and the main business decision makers in the market. The event has 400 exhibitors, featuring new product launches and discussing technology trends -- from solutions for retail and the office of the future to a wide array of new products that will be in users' hands in 2005.
