Under the agreement, Citrix has granted Telechips the right to embed the ICA protocol in the Telechips Access line of integrated, PC-telephony information appliances.

Telechips Access combines the power of a personal computer with the convenience of a fully functional telephone to deliver information quickly and easily to end users. Citrix's ICA thin-client software will enable Telechips telephony-based information appliances to run standard Windows applications in conjunction with Citrix's WinFrame(r) multi-user application server software over any type of network connection, including modems, wide area networks, intranets or the Internet.

According to Randall Pinato, Telechips' executive vice president of sales and marketing, ICA-enabled Telechips Access information appliances together with WinFrame application servers will help I/S I/S Information Systems

"Telechips Access is the only computer-telephony workstation implementing all the features and advantages of PCs and telephones on a standard Windows platform. Through WinFrame and ICA, we're expanding the reach of server-based applications beyond the LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. "We are committed to partnering with leading software and hardware companies to extend the reach of enterprise applications into new markets through the licensing of our powerful ICA technology," stated Edward Iacobucci, Citrix chairman and chief technical officer. "Together, Citrix and Telechips can further penetrate the marketplace for personal computing by delivering low-cost, user-friendly information appliances that are capable of running robust, mission-critical applications."

"The coupling of these companies' technologies is the kind of synergistic, creatively delivered hardware and software packaging that we consider a key criterion for success in the information appliance market," said Traver Kennedy, an analyst at Boston-based Aberdeen Group Inc. "This is especially true in the PC-telephony niche involving today's two most visible and powerful tools, the PC and the telephone."
