Telco Systems Introduces Carrier Grade Gigabit IP Ethernet Ring Solution for Triple Play and Metro Access Services with Recovery Rate Rivaling SONET; Recovery Speed Unmatched by Competitors; Visit us at SUPERCOMM Booth 24048.

CHICAGO -- Telco Systems today at the SUPERCOMM telecommunications trade show booth 24048 here introduced a standards-based carrier grade gigabit IP Ethernet ring solution with recovery from network outages in as little as 15 milliseconds, providing failover performance equal to SONET at speeds unmatched by competitors. This marks the availability of technology to enable service providers to use a standards-based solution to deliver carrier grade IP Ethernet triple-play and metro access network services.

"We've addressed all the issues surrounding the delivery of carrier-grade IP Ethernet for metro access and triple-play applications and produced a more robust solution than what is currently available elsewhere, and we did it based on IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  standards, unlike many who have chosen a proprietary approach," said Dave Lee, Telco Systems Vice President of Marketing.

The company will be doing live demonstrations at booth 24048 at SUPERCOMM.

With failover recovery rates of less than 50 milliseconds, disruptions in service due to cable cuts, equipment failure or power outages go unnoticed whether it's voice, video or data. The fast recovery performance is made possible by a new major software upgrade implemented on Telco Systems' T5 Compact family of IP switches. The new upgraded T5 Compact, which supports the IEEE Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol Based on an algorithm invented by Radia Perlman while working for Digital Equipment Corporation[1][2], Spanning Tree Protocol Is an OSI layer-2 protocol which ensures a loop free topology for any bridged LAN.  (MSTP (MultiService Transport Platform) A high-end Cisco router that is geared for optical connections to metropolitan area networks (MANs). MSTPs include the functionality of MultiService Provisioning Platform (MSSP) routers. See MSSP and MSPP. ) and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP See RTSP. ) standards, can achieve recovery from outages in as little as 15 milliseconds in large 14 node rings and easily equals SONET performance of less than 50 milliseconds in much larger rings.

The ring solution provides gigabit speeds and extremely high levels of network reliability, availability and scalability in both copper and fiber rings. It also supports multicasting of IP broadcast video and triple play services; supports complex network architectures such as interconnected rings while maintaining fast recovery rates; and maintains interoperability with other manufacturers' network elements.

At SUPERCOMM booth 24048, Telco Systems will be running residential and enterprise VoIP, Fiber-To-The- Home/Business, WiFi backhaul, broadcast IP video, broadband Internet and data transport applications over their new Metro Ethernet Access Ring solution and demonstrating its less than 50 millisecond recovery capability. Telco Systems will also be exhibiting at the Metro Ethernet Forum The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) was founded in 2002. It is a non-profit international industry consortium, dedicated to worldwide adoption of Carrier Ethernet networks and services. , booth 48085, and PICMG An industry consortium that develops specifications for backplanes and interconnects for electronic equipment in the industrial and telecom fields. It was founded in 1994 as the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group, hence the acronym. , booth 43085.

The NEBS-compliant T5 Compact is a carrier-class IP Ethernet switch that provides high performance in a super-compact package. Only 1 Rack Unit (RU) in height, the T5 Compact boasts the capacity of physically larger backbone switches at price points associated with workgroup switching. The T5 Compact family supports up to 48 10/100 ports or 24 10/100/1000 copper or fiber ports and 4 Gigabit fiber or copper uplinks. This versatile switch is used in Metro Ethernet Access Rings, Fiber-To-The-Home/Business (FTTH/B) applications, data aggregation, and delivery of a wide variety of IP-based Ethernet services such as Virtual Private Networks, VoIP and video.

The feature-rich T5 Compact family supports port trunking, IEEE 802.1q VLAN See virtual LAN.

tagging, IEEE 802.3x flow control, backpressure, IEEE 802.1p class of service and redundant power supplies. The T5 Compact is fully manageable via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. , CLI, or by embedded Java(TM)-based web management. IP multicast support (IGMP (Internet Group Multicast Protocol) The protocol that governs the management of multicast groups in a TCP/IP network. To sign up for a multicast group, a Host Membership Report is sent by a user's machine to its nearest routers, which forward that data to ), for voice and video applications, gives users the ability to control which ports receive broadcasts.
