) announced today that its EdgeLink500(TM) Frame Relay Access Device (communications) Frame Relay Access Device - (FRAD) Hardware and software that turns packets from TCP, SNA, IPX, etc into frames that can be sent over a Frame Relay wide area network.  (FRAD (Frame Relay Access Device or Frame Relay Assembler Disassembler) A communications device that formats outgoing data into the format required by a frame relay network. It strips the data back out at the other end. ) has passed rigorous testing and received certification from WorldCom.

With achievement of WorldCom's Frame Relay Network CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.

CPE - Customer Premises Equipment
Certification, the EdgeLink500 has been added to WorldCom's certified vendor list. Testing was completed at WorldCom's Enterprise Network Laboratory in Tulsa, OK. The lab analysis included compatibility tests run between the EdgeLink500 and Cascade 9000 Frame Relay switches in several scenarios including file transfer and other traffic tests.

Telco Systems' EdgeLink500 is a low cost, feature rich Frame Relay Access Device that enables multiprotocol LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network  internetworking across public and private Frame Relay networks. The EdgeLink500 permits branch office users to access Token Ring and Ethernet LANs as well as business-critical SNA/APPN applications. In addition, it supports SNA/SDLC, bisync and async traffic. The EdgeLink500 ensures that legacy users capitalize on Frame Relay's favorable tariffs, higher bandwidths and low error rates. It provides an integrated solution for Frame Relay based networking that continually

optimizes bandwidth utilization while safeguarding the end-to-end delivery of mission critical data.

Features of the EdgeLink500 include:

-- Serial, Ethernet and Token Ring access -- RFC 1490 multiprotocol encapsulation of SNA (LLC2), bisync, async, IP and IPX

-- Guaranteed Bandwidth Facility and prioritization of data allows mission critical and client server data to be intelligently merged onto a single DLCI (Data Link Connection Identifier) The number of a private or switched virtual circuit in a frame relay network. Located in the frame header, the DLCI field identifies which logical circuit the data travels over, and each DLCI has a committed information rate

-- Virtual Multidrop Facility enables SDLC (Synchronous Data Link Control) The primary data link protocol used in IBM's SNA networks. It is a bit-oriented synchronous protocol that is a subset of the HDLC protocol. See SNA, DLC and Microsoft DLC.

, bisync or async lines to connect over Frame Relay to a multidrop

-- Automatic dial backup -- SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  network management -- Telnet monitoring -- GUI configurator and auto configuration functions allow for easy installation

-- 56Kbps to 2Mbps Frame Relay User Network Interface (UNI) -- Intelligent Frame Relay Access for Async, IP, SDLC, IPX, Ethernet, Bisync, Token Ring and SNA

-- Stackability for multiport configuration

There are three models in the EdgeLink500 family: the 500t, which supports Token Ring and up to four serial ports; the 500e, which supports Ethernet and up to three serial ports, and the 500s which supports up to four serial ports. All three models are also available in rack mountable versions. Pricing starts at $1,095. For ordering information, call (781) 255-2250.
