TelStrat Announces New SONET Access Product Utilizing Agere Systems Technology.

Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 2002

Today, TelStrat, a developer and manufacturer of globally distributed voice and data carrier and enterprise solutions, announced a new SONET access product utilizing technology from Agere Systems Agere Systems Inc. was an integrated circuit components company based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania, in the United States. Effective April 2, 2007, it was merged into LSI Corporation.  Inc. (NYSE NYSE

Agere Systems is the world leader in communications components. TelStrat is using Agere's software in its new Inteleflex SONET OC-3 card with protocol support for transmission ranging from OC-3 at 155.52 megabits-per-second (Mbps) to OC-48 at 2.488 gigabits-per-second (Gbps).

TelStrat manufactures the Inteleflex Multi-service Intelligent Access Platform and many other fiber optic, integrated access, remote access and voice over IP (VoIP) products for the carrier and enterprise markets.

Agere Systems recently developed a SONET software stack which enables faster deployment of SONET-compliant products, shorter time-to-market and lower system costs. Designers using Agere Systems framer products can more quickly implement a SONET-compliant interface with the new Agere SONET software stack than competitive products.

"The key functions that attracted TelStrat to Agere's SONET software are SONET/SDH operations, administration, maintenance, provisioning and protection (OAM&P); protection software (ring, linear, and equipment); protection switching management; fault management; performance monitoring; cross-connect management; and configuration management," said Kirk Barker, vice president, engineering, at TelStrat.

Multiple SONET OC-3 Cards can be deployed for high-bandwidth applications to provide Gigabits worth of bandwidth on each Inteleflex node. Up to 32 nodes can be deployed in a variety of configurations in a single system arrangement to serve up to 2,016 subscribers.

"The addition of Agere's SONET system software to the optical line cards in Inteleflex allow TelStrat's Multi-Service Intelligent Access Platform to offer superior SONET functionality in a cost-effective manner. With this addition, Inteleflex will now be able to offer SONET restorable transport, uplink and UPSR ring functionality to our customers. Agere's experience and expertise in the optical area is well known and unmatched," said Barker.

The Inteleflex Multi-Service Intelligent Access Platform (MIAP) delivers and manages narrowband and broadband voice, data and video services over any network architecture, including fiber, copper, and wireless.

The addition of true SONET compliant, restorable transport, uplink and ring to the Inteleflex MIAP marks a major step forward in the evolution of cost-effective access platform solutions targeted at the Independent Operating Company operating company

, Voice over IP and Broadcast Video that are now beginning to impact access networks. This problem is expected to worsen as time goes on and the deployment of these high-bandwidth services increases dramatically.

The Inteleflex platform is designed to protect a carrier's access network investment today while providing a smooth migration to the access network requirements of tomorrow. Inteleflex offers greater bandwidth and broadband flexibility than any other product in its market.

Inteleflex has been serving carrier networks for over three years and is currently deployed in several phone companies in most states across the nation. Inteleflex is "field-proven" and "future-ready" for your access network.
