Teksid Expands in U.S., Shows Slowdown in Mexico.


Teksid, Inc. (Fiat), Plymouth, Michigan Plymouth is a city in Wayne County of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 9,022 at the 2000 census. The city is located within Plymouth Township, but is politically independent. , announced that it will build a second manufacturing plant in Sylacauga, Alabama Sylacauga is a city in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 12,616.

The first documented case of an object from outer space hitting a person happened in Sylacauga.
. The new plant will be constructed at the same complex as Teksid Aluminum Components.

The new diecasting plant is scheduled to produce aluminum cylinder blocks for Nissan. Capital investments for the additional plant are estimated at $41 million. Full capacity production is expected by the year 2004, with the addition of 106 jobs.

In other news, Teksid's output at its Mexican iron foundry, Teksid de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (Grupo Quimmco), Monclova, Coahuila, is down 30% for the first half of the year. U.S. economic sluggishness is cited by Jesus Barrera, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Grupo Quimmco.

In response, the plant has laid off 500 workers, roughly 30% of the workforce. It casts aluminum engine monoblocks and heads.

In 2006, more than 69 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide.  and employs 15,000 people at 34 facilities worldwide.
