 maker Tekelec has sold its network diagnostics (1) Software routines that test hardware components (memory, keyboard, disks, etc.). Diagnostics are often stored in ROM chips and activated on startup.

(2) Error messages in a programmer's source code that refer to statements or syntax that the compiler or assembler

"The sale allows Tekelec to focus on the significant opportunities in our core business, while also providing added liquidity to our already strong balance sheet," he said.

For the quarter ending June 30, Tekelec reported $4.5 million in net income on $80 million in total revenue, compared to a year earlier when it posted a $4.6 million loss on $70.9 million in revenue.

Margolis said the company will continue to focus on its core network switching systems, which include media and signaling controllers that allow messaging, wireless and data transmission functions, all of which make up about 70 percent of its sales. Tekelec also develops software for managing call center operations.
