Tekelec Introduces Support for 700 Links on its EAGLE STP; Throughput and Capacity Remain at 100 Percent in All Configurations.

MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 1996--Tekelec (Nasdaq/NM:TKLC) announced today that it has extended the link capacity of its EAGLE Signal Transfer Point (STP STP or standard temperature and pressure, standard conditions for measurement of the properties of matter. The standard temperature is the freezing point of pure water, 0°C; or 273.15°K;. ) to 700 links. Signal Transfer Points are specialized spe·cial·ize

Allan Toomer, senior vice president and general manager of Tekelec's Network Switching Division said, "We've seen an interesting departure from typical customer requirements over the past several months. While many customers continue to build out hierarchical A structure made up of different levels like a company organization chart. The higher levels have control or precedence over the lower levels. Hierarchical structures are a one-to-many relationship; each item having one or more items below it.  SS7 networks with smaller STPs, a new class of customers is requiring significantly larger STPs for connectivity to multiple networks and hundreds of internal network switches. This is particularly evident in Europe and Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies. , as they convert from `mesh' networks to STP-based networks. Our latest EAGLE enhancement will allow us to serve these large customer's connectivity requirements."

, comprised of high speed 250 Mbps, redundant counter-rotating busses, easily supports the additional requirements of 700 links. Prior to the most recent development, the limitation in number of links supported was simply a factor of the EAGLE's internal link addressing scheme. Support for 700 links was attained by expanding address fields to two bytes and imposing an internal requirement for the support of 100 percent link occupancy on all links, in a simplex bus configuration.
