New Feature Allows Equipment Manufacturers and Service Providers
to Bring LNP-Compliant Products and Services to Market Faster
Tekelec (Nasdaq N/M: TKLC), announced today that its MGTS Signalling Diagnostic System is the first test system in the industry to offer Local Number Portability (LNP) testing. With its new LNP capabilities, the Tekelec MGTS now enables telecommunications equipment manufacturers and service providers to ensure that their equipment and services comply with the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) LNP mandate.
LNP is a critical feature for all telecommunications equipment manufacturers and service providers as the FCC now requires that every local telephone service provider support LNP before the end of 1997 in order to provide an even playing field within the local telephone market. Number portability is defined as allowing telecommunications users to retain their existing numbers without sacrificing quality, reliability or convenience when switching from one carrier to another.

Tekelec's MGTS can simulate all of the network elements and validate the functionality associated with the LNP application resident on those elements. Such elements include the recently-announced, integrated STP/LNP platforms offered on Tekelec's EAGLE Signal Transfer Point (STP).
Emulating an LNP-equipped switch, vendors can utilize the MGTS to generate Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) triggers, which are then routed through STPs to LNP applications contained on the STPs or SCPs (Service Control Points). In addition, Global Title Translation capabilities of the STP and the resulting LNP translations are essential to robust LNP implementations.
Carriers can emulate LNP traffic mixes with the MGTS and simultaneously generate a variety of other traffic mixes, duplicating real-world environments. In these scenarios, the MGTS LNP application can stress switches and end offices, ensuring end-to-end functionality of LNP implementations.
The ability to functionally validate and stress switches, STPs and databases make the MGTS an essential tool for switch manufactures, general purpose computer manufacturers and carriers, alike, when developing, validating or implementing LNP applications, services or products.
