Tek-Tools Software Unveils EMC Symmetrix DMX Module.

Profiler now delivers comprehensive support for Symmetrix DMX, Clariion, and Celerra

DALLAS -- Tek-Tools Software, a leading independent provider of resource management software solutions, today announced the availability StorageProfiler for the EMC Symmetrix DMX line of storage arrays. Profiler's Symmetrix module, a component of Tek-Tools' high-performance, modular resource reporting application, discovers logical and physical attributes and mappings based on EMC's SMI-S provider implementation, giving Profiler the capability to report on Symmetrix asset information, connectivity (LUNs and Ports), and capacity (physical disks, volumes, and storage pools) both in real time and historically.

StorageProfiler for EMC Symmetrix DMX is an intuitive web-based application that unifies reporting, monitoring, and notification enabling IT staff to proactively monitor, manage, and report on the storage infrastructure within the enterprise. From the array to switches, HBAs, servers, and mission critical applications, customers can proactively manage and reclaim valuable man-hours through automation, mitigate the risk relative to regulatory and corporate compliance, reduce system outages, and improve performance.

StorageProfiler for Symmetrix DMX supports multiple DMX arrays, heterogeneous platforms, and mission critical applications such as SQL, Oracle, and Exchange. Intuitive by design, the Symmetrix DMX module allows all levels of management to customize different views of the data to meet their particular functional need. Custom grouping of assets, arrays, hosts, and file systems creates a unique interface that maps technology to business structure and allows customers to logically manage their IT infrastructure; thus, eliminating the manual tasks that are associated with chargeback, capacity management, forecasting, and tending.

Profiler's Symmetrix module is based on the Storage Management Industry Specifications (SMI-S) developed by SNIA, which assists in ascertaining and reporting on data for logical and physical mapping, physical components and operational status, and performance statistics over time. These standards adhere to common practices for data discovery, events, and active management across different hardware devices. Support for Hitachi, HP, and IBM will be announced by the end of 2006.

Profiler's Symmetrix DMX module reports on volumes, RAID groups/storage pools, disks, initiator and target ports, operational status for the array, processors, and all the associations between each entity. These reports can be run in intervals to collect data over time to assist in managed space consumption on RAID Groups, mapping storage volumes back to the host that they were assigned to, and how these volumes are load balanced across each storage processor on the array. Customers gain valuable insight into storage utilization across the enterprise, can identify the impact of a failure, and can trend and forecast for capacity planning and business continuity decisions, all from a single pane-of-glass view, eliminating the need for manually creating spreadsheets for LUN association and mapping. Profiler for Symmetrix DMX is easier to deploy than competitive SAN management tools and cost significantly less, saving time and money.
